BREATHING WITH THE TREES

In this series, I explore the connection to those living beings that produce our air to breathe, the trees.

I used maps as a painting surface, which I had printed in excessive quantities 25 years ago. The thought of the disrespectful use of wood as a raw material in print products and ultimately the living beings that produced it deeply moved me. My goal was to establish a connection with these beings that provide me with the material for my work. It was important to me to show them respect and acknowledge their significant role in my life.

The "Overstitchings" are abstract interpretations of electron microscope images of stomata. Stomata are cells in the leaves of plants that allow them to absorb CO2 and release oxygen. Without plant photosynthesis, we could not survive. Stitching is a technique used to connect things. Here, I use it to make the connection between us humans and the trees visible.
