Disregard for Nature and the integrity of its ecosystems and life-supporting processes harm all species on earth. The tsunami of media report about the resulting ecological and social problems leaves us feeling powerless. By exploring these topics in my artistic work, I step out of incapacity and empower myself. With my work I show both, the vulnerability and the power of nature, and I emphasise the importance of taking care of nature.
I often use traditional handicraft techniques which are reflecting the centuries-old relationship of people with her natural environment. But I also use unusual materials or modify the old techniques. This approach helps me on the one hand, showing respect for those people who lived before me. Breaking the rules on the other hand, assists creating new ways of thinking about our relationship with nature.
For me, creating art means reflecting my experiences, finding words and images for my feelings. Being outside and observing nature is linked to questions about the mysteries of life, transience and death. During my artistic reflection answers arise as well as new questions with which I go outside again. The perception of nature and the artistic creation are intensively interwoven and I understand both as research and learning. In this way there is an inseparable connection between my artistic work, being outside and my person.
Inspirations for my work I got from natural scientists, philosophers and biologists Torbjørn Ekelund, Donna J. Haraway, David G. Haskell, Robin W. Kimmerer and Baptiste Morizot. I have learned from them about the importance of exchange between humans and non-human species for developing another way of thinking.
